Sophie Cunningham’s brutally honest assessment of Indiana Fever
Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham offered a candid assessment of her team’s performance this season.
The Fever entered the campaign with championship aspirations after reaching the semifinals last year. However, the team has remained inconsistent through its first 14 games despite showing flashes of promise.
With Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston, Indiana’s offense is powerful. Statistically, the Fever rank second in the WNBA at 91.6 points per game. However, they also allow opponents to score 86.7 points per game.

Sophie Cunningham says Indiana Fever struggle with consistency, gives team 62% grade
On the latest episode of her “Show Me Something” podcast, Cunningham gave a blunt assessment of the team’s performance and graded it low. She also shared her thoughts on why the team continues to struggle.
“What I would grade us right now, I would give us a 62 percent,” the 6-foot-1 guard said. “Oh, I think so far this season we are a C just because we are inconsistent and like we haven’t caught our rhythm.”
Cunningham noted that the Fever have already shown how effective they can be when playing together at their best. She also emphasized the importance of daily progress as the team works to improve its form.
“But when we click, we’re freaking A++ like,” she said. “We’re trying to find like the fun in it because that’s when we’re at our best. And we just have to stack our days because I think we’re moving in the right direction. And so that’s positive.”

That “A++” level of play was on full display Saturday night at Mohegan Sun Arena. The Fever beat the Connecticut Sun 85-75. Clark led the way with a game-high 25 points on 10-for-17 shooting, including five 3-pointers.
Cunningham added a late scoring surge to help seal the win. She came off the bench in the fourth quarter and scored 11 points. Remarkably, all those points came in the final two minutes. She hit three 3-pointers and added a layup to wrap up the victory.
The win extended Indiana’s winning streak to three games and improved its overall record to 8-5. It also moved the Fever to 4-1 in Commissioner’s Cup play.
Indiana made it four wins in a row on Tuesday. They defeated the Toronto Tempo, 113-91. Cunningham went off for a season-high 24 points on 6-of-7 from three-point territory.
