Chicago Bears: Colston Loveland named team’s 2026 “non-quarterback” MVP

Colston Loveland, Chicago Bears

There is no question who the most valuable player is on the Chicago Bears roster. Quarterback Caleb Williams may be entering just his third season in the NFL, but he already should be counted among the greatest passers in franchise history.

Indeed, the Bears have rarely had an offensive star of Williams’ caliber. His popularity around the league, too, was put on display when he was selected as the cover athlete for this year’s Madden video game.

As good as Williams is, though, every good quarterback needs to have reliable pass catchers. In that vein, it is pretty clear that Colston Loveland is nearly as important to the team as their star quarterback.

It has become apparent over the last several decades that the MVP in the NFL is almost always going to be a quarterback. That is not to say, though, that other players are not valuable.

Recently, CBS Sports posted an article in which they named the most valuable player who is not a quarterback on every team’s roster. These players could be offensive or defensive players.

When it came to Chicago, they named Loveland:

“Loveland showed during his rookie season that he was well worth the No. 10 pick in the draft. He finished the year with 58 catches for 713 yards and six touchdowns, and he exploded down the stretch and in the playoffs. (In his final four games of the year, he caught 28 passes for 378 yards and two scores.)

“With DJ Moore no longer in town, he figures to be the focus of the passing attack for Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams, and he has the skill set to be a star at the position.”

As mentioned above, Loveland had 58 receptions for 713 yards and six touchdowns last season, making him the Bears’ leading receiver.

With injuries to several wide receivers already in training camp, Loveland has become even more important to Chicago. While he likely would be their leading pass catcher again anyway (based on last year), his volume of targets could be even more pronounced.
