Chicago Cubs: Kevin Gausman reveals wife’s surprising reaction to trade
The Chicago Cubs were one of the most active teams ahead of the MLB trade deadline. So far, the moves they made have sure paid off as they are on the verge of sweeping the Los Angeles Dodgers. Los Angeles, of course, landed the biggest name on the trading block this year in two-time Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal. The Cubs defeated him on Tuesday night.
Chicago, too, landed a pretty high-profile pitcher themselves. They were able to acquire two-time All-Star starter Kevin Gausman, who will make his Cubs debut on Friday.
Kevin Gausman reveals his wife’s reaction to Chicago Cubs trade
Gausman spent the last 4.5 seasons in Toronto. But before that he was a long-time member of the Baltimore Orioles for a while. During that time to start out his Major League career, he was often linked to the Cubs in trade rumors.
So when he was finally dealt to Chicago last weekend, Gausman says that his wife told him: “It’s about time.” He added, “Because just in Baltimore for years, it seemed like it was kind of always a link to here. … Happy that I’m here finally.
“Being a part of a team when they can bring guys in and you know that they’re going for it, it’s almost like a shot of adrenaline and can kind of breathe some life into the team. It doesn’t seem like this team needs it, to be honest, but still excited to be here.”
The two-time All-Star is 5-10 with a 4.39 ERA so far this season, his worst marks in several years. Hopefully a change of scenery will do him good.
