Chicago White Sox named a loser of the 2026 MLB trade deadline
The Chicago White Sox came into the final weekend before the MLB trade deadline looking to fulfill multiple needs on their roster. They made no secret of the fact that they wanted a starting pitcher, a reliever, an outfielder, and a catcher. Injuries and inconsistent performances have affected all of those roles all season long. In order to maintain their lead in American League Central Division, they needed to improve these areas.
But while the White Sox were able to add a player to address each of those needs, there are some who believe they could have done better.
ESPN named the Chicago White Sox of the losers of the MLB trade deadline

ESPN is among the hardest critics of what Chicago did ahead of the trade deadline. In their article documenting winners and losers of one of the busiest weekends in baseball, they named the White Sox one of the latter:
“The White Sox are ahead of schedule, so it’s understandable why they weren’t more aggressive, but they didn’t do much to improve the team. Castillo hasn’t been that good with the Seattle Mariners and will cost $24 million next year. Brenton Doyle is a good defensive outfielder but can’t hit.
“Huascar Brazoban might help the bullpen, but there were more impactful relievers who were traded. Joey Bart might help only because Chicago’s catching situation has been so bad (last in the majors in the offense).”
The positive thing that many point to about the new White Sox players is that they are all under club control for next year. However, if they do not improve on their play from their previous teams, that may end up being a terrible thing for Chicago.
