Chicago White Sox trade proposal lands team 2 Cincinnati Reds pitchers and catching help
The Chicago White Sox are 58-52 on the season following their 1-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday. As of this writing, they still hold a 2.5 game lead in the American League Central Division.
This is a huge weekend in Major League Baseball because the trade deadline lands on Monday. The White Sox are a surprise contender this year, and for the first time in a while will be buyers at the deadline as opposed to sellers.
As the trade deadline nears, Chicago is in need of both pitching and catching. A recent trade proposal would solve both problems.
Trade proposal with the Cincinnati Reds would give the Chicago White Sox 2 pitchers and a catcher
Bleacher Report recently published an article in which they proposed a trade for every team that is believed to be buyers at the deadline. For the White Sox, they suggested a trade would would bring pitchers Brady Singer and Brock Burke as well as catcher Tyler Stephenson to Chicago:
“The White Sox are known to be looking for rotation help and catching depth after Kyle Teel was injured, and every contender can use more quality bullpen pieces, so this is a quantity package that addresses multiple needs.
“Singer has been hit-and-miss, but with a 4.24 ERA in 962.2 career innings, there is a long enough track record of production to believe he can potentially be a playoff starter. Stephenson is a league-average hitter who can handle a staff, while Burke has a 2.61 ERA over an NL-leading 56 appearances.”
In order to get these players, BR has the White Sox giving up their number 10 overall prospect Javier Mogollon and starting pitcher David Sandlin.
Singer is 5-10 with a 4.35 ERA in 21 starts this year. He will be a free agent at the end of the season.
Burke is 4-4 with a 2.56 ERA in 55 appearances (one save) this season. He also will be a free agent at season’s end.
In 84 games this season, Stephenson is hitting .252/.338/.401 with eight home runs and 30 RBI. As is the case with the other two, he will be a free agent at the end of the year.
Because all three players will hit free agency after Chicago concludes their 2026 campaign, this is the kind of move that would definitely be considered a “win now” move.
