Former Chicago Cubs RHP traded to the Milwaukee Brewers ahead of 2026 deadline
The Chicago Cubs are 62-48 on the season following their 2-0 loss to the New York Yankees on Friday night. That loss, combined with a Milwaukee Brewers win, has put the Cubs 6.5 games back of first place in the National League Central Division.
With the Major League Baseball trade deadline approaching quickly, Chicago is in desperate need of pitching reinforcements. They do have a couple of starting pitchers close to returning, so their most pressing need is more arms in the bullpen.
Unfortunately, one of their former effective out-getters that was on the market is now headed to Milwaukee.
Former Chicago Cubs pitcher Codi Heuer has been traded to the Milwaukee Brewers
According to MLB insider Mark Feinsand, former Cubs reliever Codi Heuer has been traded by the Cleveland Guardians to the Brewers as part of a four-player trade:
The Brewers have acquired Bo Naylor and Codi Heuer from the Guardians for Blake Perkins and Craig Yoho.

Heuer was acquired by the Cubs midway through the 2021 season from the Chicago White Sox in the Craig Kimbrel trade. In 25 games with the north side club, Heuer was 3-3 with a 3.14 ERA and two saves.
After missing the entire 2022 season because of injury, he appeared in 15 games for Triple-A Iowa in 2023, but posted a 7.82 ERA. He was then granted free agency, but did not pitch in 2024.
In 2025, Heuer spent time with the Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers organizations. After being released by Detroit towards the end of the year, he signed as a free agent with the Guardians.
So far this year, Heuer is 0-1 with a 4.66 ERA in eight appearances. In 26 appearances with their Triple-A club, he has a 3.46 ERA.
Milwaukee is sending Heuer to their own Triple-A affiliate in Nashville for the time being.
