Afterwards, the White Sox announced that Bart had suffered a fractured fifth metacarpal in his left hand. The injury puts his availability for the remainder of the season in serious doubt and is a significant setback for Chicago just days after acquiring him at the trade deadline.

Bart was acquired from the Atlanta Braves at the trade deadline in exchange for right-handed pitcher Duncan Davitt. Although he remains under team control through the 2027 season, he was Chicago’s immediate thought to upgrade its offense behind the plate while Kyle Teel continues to recover from a high ankle sprain as Bart was viewed to be a clear offensive improvement over Drew Romo and Edgar Quero.

Now, Teel’s recovery timeline carries even greater importance. The organization has been targeting an early September return, but with Bart sidelined indefinitely, getting its top catching prospect back as soon as he’s healthy becomes even more critical.

With the trade deadline behind them, Chicago’s alternative options over the next month are limited. One possibility is promoting veteran Eric Haase, who signed a minor league deal on July 28 and has started his Triple-A stint with eight hits in his first six games. While not officially announced by the team, baseball reporter Francys Romero has indicated that Quero is getting called up in light of Bart’s injury.
