Chicago White Sox to sound much different in 2027 after latest move

The Chicago White Sox are riding high after making an improbable run to the American League Division Series. Still, plenty of changes will soon be coming to the organization.

Off the diamond, the White Sox will have a new play-by-play voice after the team decided not to renew John Schriffen, via Scott Merkin of MLB.com. As the franchise goes in a different direction, executive vice president Brooks Boyer still paid Schriffen his respect.

“John has been a true professional throughout his three seasons with the White Sox, bringing energy, enthusiasm, and a distinctive style to our broadcasts,” Boyer said. “As his contract comes to an end, we believe this is the appropriate time to evaluate the direction of our broadcasts and determine what is best for the organization and our fans moving forward.

“We are appreciative of John’s contributions and the connection he built with our fanbase,” he concluded. “We wish him continued success in his future endeavors.”

Schriffen had been with the White Sox since 2024, seeing both side’s of Chicago’s coin. In his first year, the South Siders lost an MLB-record 121 games. After another 100 loss season, Schriffen saw the Sox make their unforgettable run to the playoffs.

With his three-year deal not being renewed, the play-by-play broadcaster will now be watching the team from afar. Whoever replaces him will have high expectations from the team and fanbase.

Chicago White Sox preparing nationwide search

As he departs the White Sox, Schriffen had to share a message of his own. While his time in Chicago may have ended, he made plenty of memories broadcasting the franchise.

“I’m grateful to the Chicago White Sox organization for the opportunity to call games over the past three seasons,” said Schriffen . “Being part of this team’s turnaround and playoff run was truly special. I want to thank White Sox fans for welcoming me to Chicago and for their support throughout my time here. I’ll always cherish the memories and look forward to what’s next.”

Merkin confirmed that beyond Schriffen, there will be no further changes to the broadcast booth. Steve Stone will be the analyst will Brooks Fletcher continues to report on-field. Len Kasper and Darrin Jackson remain leading White Sox radio.

Who replaces Schriffen will now come down to a nationwide search. The franchise plans to turn over every stone to find their next voice. Having some form of local connection would help a perspective candidate, Merkin reported. But ultimately, Chicago wants the best option possible.

Schriffen’s final year in the booth came just as the White Sox ended their playoff drought. Whoever becomes the South Side’s next voice, Chicago will hope they’re calling even more wins moving forward.
