Criminal Vagrant Sues Elderly Man for Defending Himself
Where liberalism prevails, justice is replaced by “social justice” — that is, the diametric opposite of justice. This could be bad news for 70-year-old James Grant, who is being sued by a bum who broke into his business and menaced him, because it happened in moonbattery-addled Portland.

Kenneth Voyles was 43 years old when he entered Touchstone Granite & Marble on Northeast Columbia Boulevard at about 5:30 a.m. on March 6, 2023, according to The Oregonian/OregonLive. Voyles, who was homeless at the time, pulled plywood off a garage door and cut through metal bars to get inside, the outlet reports. He is now suing business owner James Grant, who was 70 at the time of the shooting, for $10 million.
Oregon law still acknowledges a right to defend yourself in your home; in your business, not so much. Grant lived in a back room, so his business was his home. But he had been told this was a violation of district zoning rules.
As for Voyles, he reportedly was on meth at the time and had been arrested before for car theft. He was convicted of first-degree burglary of a dwelling and menacing.
Voyles … raised bolt cutters and moved toward him, prompting Grant to fire three shots to protect himself, striking Voyles in the arm and torso.
There were no criminal charges against Grant, but civil court is another matter. His self-defense, combined with the technicality that he wasn’t supposed to be living at his business, could cost the Army vet everything, given the prevalence in Portland of moonbats likely to side with scumbags against business owners in the name of social justice.
