The Message and Jesus – our Spiritual Sun

Discussing current events and how they relate to Biblical prophesy. What are some critical signs are pointing to the imminent Rapture of the Church?

The people who live in darkness
have seen a great light,
and for those living in the shadowland of death,
light has dawned.
(Matthew 4:16)

Today I want to speak to you about a truth that’s as bright as the noonday sun, yet as personal as the warmth on your skin. We’re going to explore how Jesus Christ is our spiritual Sun – the source of our light, our warmth, our very life. The Bible says in Malachi 4:2, “But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings.” This isn’t just flowery language – it’s a profound truth that can transform your life today.

On February 6, 1999 I was sitting on my bed praying and the Lord spoke to me in a loud voice.

He said, “Tell them that I love them. Tell them that I care. Tell them that I am coming for them. Prepare, like a man who has been told he has just a short time to live. Heal, forgive, and perform those acts of charity that you have been putting off. Tell everyone that I am coming soon for My bride.”

At this point, He said, “What do you see?” I looked down at the pattern on the bed. It was a pattern of budding flowers.

He said, “Open yourself up to praise Me…receive My love…stretch yourself out to Me”.  After that, He said: “My reward is with Me”.

Now, you might be thinking, “What does it mean for Jesus to be our spiritual Sun?” Well, let’s break it down simply. Just as the physical sun is essential for life on Earth, Jesus is essential for our spiritual life. Without the sun, our world would be cold, dark, and lifeless. Similarly, without Jesus, our souls are left in spiritual darkness and death.

The Bible tells us in John 8:12, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Isn’t that a beautiful promise? Just as the sun lights up our world, Jesus illuminates our hearts and minds. He shows us the way when we’re lost, reveals truth when we’re confused, and exposes sin when we’ve strayed.

But it’s not just about light. Think about the warmth of the sun. On a cold day, there’s nothing quite like stepping into a patch of sunlight. You can feel its warmth seeping into your bones, can’t you? That’s what Jesus does for our souls. His love warms our hearts, melting away the ice of bitterness, fear, and despair. The Psalmist knew this when he wrote, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield” (Psalm 84:11).

Jesus doesn’t just illuminate our path; He transforms our very being. The apostle Paul puts it this way in 2 Corinthians 3:18: “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory.” Just as plants turn towards the sun and grow, when we turn our hearts towards Jesus, we grow spiritually, becoming more like Him.

But let’s get practical for a moment. In our modern world, we’re facing a crisis of darkness. Just turn on the news – violence, corruption, hatred. It can feel overwhelming, can’t it? But here’s the thing: the darker the night, the brighter the stars shine. And Jesus, our spiritual Sun, shines brightest in the darkest times.

In John 1:5, we read, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” No matter how dark our world gets, it can never extinguish the light of Christ. And here’s the incredible part – as followers of Jesus, we’re called to reflect His light. Matthew 5:14 tells us, “You are the light of the world.” Just as the moon reflects the sun’s light, we’re meant to reflect Christ’s light in this dark world.

Now, some of you might be thinking, “But I don’t feel very bright. My life is a mess. How can I reflect Christ’s light?” My friend, let me tell you – it’s not about your perfection, it’s about His presence. Even a small candle can light up a dark room. When you allow Jesus, the spiritual Sun, to shine in your life, you can’t help but reflect His light to others.

Let’s think about how the sun works in nature. It doesn’t just provide light and warmth – it’s essential for life itself. Plants use sunlight to create food through photosynthesis. Without the sun, there would be no plants, no food chain, no life as we know it. In the same way, Jesus isn’t just a nice addition to our lives – He’s essential for our spiritual life.

Jesus Himself said in John 15:5, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” Just as a plant can’t produce fruit without sunlight, we can’t produce spiritual fruit without Christ. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness – all these come from abiding in Jesus, our spiritual Sun.

But here’s where it gets really exciting. The sun doesn’t just sustain life – it helps things grow. A plant kept in the dark will be weak and stunted. But put it in the sunlight, and watch it flourish! The same is true in our spiritual lives. When we bask in the light of Christ, we grow. We become stronger, more mature, more fruitful.

The apostle Peter understood this. He encourages us in 2 Peter 3:18, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” This growth doesn’t happen overnight. Just as a tree grows slowly but steadily in the sunlight, our spiritual growth is a lifelong process of soaking in the light of Christ.

Now, let me ask you something. Have you ever gotten a sunburn? It’s not pleasant, is it? But do you blame the sun? Of course not! The sun is doing what it’s supposed to do. The problem is with our exposure. In the same way, when we feel convicted by God’s truth, it’s not because Jesus, our spiritual Sun, is being harsh. It’s because His light is exposing areas in our lives that need to change.

The Bible says in Ephesians 5:13-14, “But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. This is why it is said: ‘Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.‘” You see, the light of Christ doesn’t just expose our sin – it calls us to wake up, to rise, to live in the light.

That’s the beauty of our spiritual Sun. Jesus doesn’t just expose our darkness – He dispels it. He doesn’t just show us our sin – He forgives it. He doesn’t just reveal our weakness – He strengthens us.

Now, let’s think about this. We know that the physical sun is consistent. It rises every morning, without fail. Can you imagine if we woke up one day and the sun didn’t rise? There would be panic! But we don’t worry about that, do we? We trust that the sun will be there.

In the same way, Jesus, our spiritual Sun, is consistent. The Bible tells us in Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” You can count on Him. His light never dims. His love never fades. His truth never changes.

But here’s a crucial difference between the physical sun and our spiritual Sun. The physical sun is impersonal. It shines on everyone equally, whether they appreciate it or not. But Jesus, our spiritual Sun, is deeply personal. He doesn’t just shine on us from a distance. He enters into a relationship with us.

Remember what Jesus said in Revelation 3:20? “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” That’s the incredible intimacy Jesus offers. He’s not a distant star, but a close friend. He doesn’t just shine on us; He shines in us.

Now, I want you to think about something. What happens when you stay inside all the time, away from the sun? You become pale, weak, and your health suffers. The same thing happens spiritually when we distance ourselves from Jesus. We need regular exposure to our spiritual Sun to stay spiritually healthy.

So how do we do that? Well, just as we might sit in the sunlight, we need to regularly bask in the presence of Jesus. We do this through prayer, reading the Bible, worship, and fellowship with other believers. It’s not about religious duty; it’s about soaking in the life-giving rays of our spiritual Sun.

The Psalmist understood this. In Psalm 27:4, he writes, “One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.” That’s what it means to bask in the light of our spiritual Sun.

But let me warn you – there are things that can block out the light of Christ in our lives. Just as clouds can obscure the sun, sin, doubt, and worldly distractions can dim the light of Jesus in our hearts. That’s why the Bible urges us in Hebrews 12:1 to “throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.

In our world today, there are so many artificial lights competing for our attention. The glare of screens, the flash of advertisements, the spotlight of fame – they’re all around us. But these lights can’t sustain us. They can’t warm our hearts. They can’t give us life. Only Jesus, our true spiritual Sun, can do that.

So I want to challenge you today. Are you living in the full light of Christ? Or have you been hiding in the shadows? Maybe you’ve never opened your heart to Jesus at all. Wherever you are, I want you to know that the light of Christ is available to you right now.

Jesus said in John 12:46, “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.” No matter how dark your life may seem, the light of Christ can break through. No matter how cold your heart may feel, the warmth of His love can thaw it. No matter how dead your spirit may appear, the life-giving power of Jesus can revive it.

You see, that’s the miracle of our spiritual Sun. Unlike the physical sun, which can cause damage if we’re exposed too long, we can never get too much of Jesus. His light never burns; it only heals. His heat never scorches; it only warms. His energy never depletes; it only empowers.

The prophet Isaiah looked forward to this reality when he wrote in Isaiah 60:19-20, “The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. Your sun will never set again, and your moon will wane no more; the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your days of sorrow will end.

That’s the promise we have in Jesus, our spiritual Sun. A light that never fades. A warmth that never cools. A life that never ends.

So let me ask you: Will you step into the light today? Will you allow Jesus, the Sun of Righteousness, to rise in your heart with healing in His wings? Will you let His light expose every dark corner of your life, not to condemn you, but to cleanse you? Will you let His warmth melt away every cold, hardened part of your heart?

The decision is yours. But I urge you, don’t wait. Every moment spent in darkness is a moment lost in the light. Every day lived apart from Christ is a day without true life.

If you’ve never accepted Jesus as your Savior, or if you’ve wandered away from Him, now is the time to come into the light. Pray with me: “Lord Jesus, I need You. I’ve been living in darkness, but I want to walk in Your light. Forgive my sins. Come into my heart. Be my Savior, my Lord, my spiritual Sun. From this day forward, I choose to walk in Your light. Amen.”

And for those of you who already know Jesus, I challenge you to draw even closer to your spiritual Sun. Spend time basking in His presence. Allow His light to penetrate every area of your life. And then, shine that light to others. Remember, you are called to be the light of the world. Reflect the radiance of Christ to those around you who are still in darkness.

My friends, in Jesus, we have a spiritual Sun that will never burn out, never be obscured, and never fail to give us light and life. So let’s walk in that light. Let’s bask in that warmth. Let’s grow in that life-giving power. For in Christ, our spiritual Sun, we find everything we need for life and godliness.

May the light of Christ shine upon you, within you, and through you, this day and forevermore. Amen.
