Fun, Failure, Frustration, & Fame: Week 10
This is my reminder that fantasy football should be fun. It is also fair warning that I only play (and write about) fantasy football for fun. I have never done a paid league, and I would not suggest you use my thoughts in a betting situation. I am NOT an expert, and I play for fun.
FAILURE
Part One: My Failures
Cincinnati Bengals Defense
I expected the Bengals defense to rebound after a pathetic performance against the New York Jets. I was obviously completely wrong as they spoiled an epic comeback by Joe Flacco and their offense, giving up 47 points to the Chicago Bears.
QB Caleb Williams
Here’s another thing I was wrong about the Bears-Bengals game. I thought QB Caleb Williams would continue to struggle. Instead, he had a HUGE day, putting up 280 yards passing, 53 yards rushing, and a total of 4 touchdowns (3 passing and 1 receiving!)
WR Jalen Coker
While I didn’t expect big numbers from WR Jalen Coker, I thought he might start to build more of a role. I was wrong. He finished with only one reception for nine yards.
Part Two: This Week’s Player “Failures”
QB Jordan Love
While Jordan love finished a respectable 26 of 37 for 273 yards, he had 0 touchdowns and an interception. He also lost TE Tucker Kraft to a torn ACL during the game. I can’t see him having another game with 0 TD passes, so I think he will respond with respectable fantasy numbers.
Verdict: FLUKE
QB Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes finished 15 of 34 (44% completion rate) for 250 yards, 0 touchdowns, and an interception. He also only added a single rush for five yards. Mahomes will respond with plenty of big games in the future.
Verdict: FLUKE
QB Daniel Jones
While QB Daniel Jones put up 342 yards of passing (31 of 50), he cost his team with five turnovers; three interceptions and two lost fumbles. Jones has been prone to turnovers in his career, but he had been having a great season. The Steelers defensive line overwhelmed the Colts offensive line. I think Jones will rebound and continue to put up good fantasy numbers.
Verdict: FLUKE
WR D.K. Metcalf
D.K. Metcalf had a quiet day for the Steelers, finishing with only two receptions on four targets for six yards. Metcalf will respond and put up numbers as the Steelers’ only consistent WR threat.
Verdict: FLUKE
WR Rome Odunze
Surprisingly, despite playing a horrible Bengals defense and the Bears putting up 47 points, WR Rome Odunze was held without a catch on three targets. I don’t expect this to continue, and expect Odunze to put up respectable numbers more often than not.
Verdict: FLUKE
RB Alvin Kamara
Alvin Kamara finished with six rushes for 14 yards and one reception for three yards, losing a fumble in the process. This is the 3rd straight game under seven fantasy points (in Yahoo’s PPR format) The Saints entire offense is unreliable, so I expect Kamara’s struggles to continue.
Verdict: TREND
RB Jahmyr Gibbs
Jahmyr Gibbs managed only nine rushes for 25 yards and three receptions for three yards in a rare tough game. The Vikings did an incredible job frustrating the Detroit offense. Gibbs – and the entire unit – will rebound.
Verdict: FLUKE
RB Jonathan Taylor
Not much went right for the Colts offense Sunday in Pittsburgh, and that surprisingly included RB Jonathan Taylor, who has been spectacular this season. Sunday, Taylor had managed only 14 rushes for 45 yards and two receptions for 12 yards. Expect Taylor to bounce back.
Verdict: FLUKE
FRUSTRATION
C.J. Stroud
It was horrible seeing C.J. Stroud knocked out of the game and placed in concussion protocol.
Jayden Daniels
What a rough season it’s been for Jayden Daniels. He had already missed time with knee and hamstring injuries, then he suffered a gruesome arm injury on Sunday night. The dislocated elbow will keep him out for several games at least. The only good news is that it wasn’t his throwing arm.
Joe Flacco
I feel for Joe Flacco. First, he guts it out and plays through an injury to his throwing shoulder. He has a spectacular game and leads an epic comeback, only to see it wasted by another pathetic performance by the Bengals defense.
FAME
Part One: What I Got Right Last Week
TE A.J. Barner
OK, this might be pushing it to say I got this one right, but I need something in this section! He only caught three passes for 24 yards, but salvaged the fantasy day with a receiving TD. If you get a TD from your starting TE, that is a solid output, so I’ll take it.
Part Two: Who I Like on the Waiver Wire
TE Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland finished with an impressive six receptions for 118 yards and two TDs Sunday. Of course, he won’t always have the luxury of playing the Bengals defense, but he definitely has some talent and I expect him to get more opportunities.
QB J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy led the Vikings to an impressive win at Detroit in his first game back. He still is inexperienced and I’m sure he’ll have his ups and downs, but he’s worth an add if you need a QB. It of course doesn’t hurt that he has Justin Jefferson to throw to.
WR Parker Washington
With Travis Hunter on IR, Parker Washington will continue to get more targets for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Sunday, he finished with eight receptions on nine targets for 90 yards.
