Fun, Failure, Frustration & Fame: Week 15
This is my reminder that fantasy football should be fun. It is also fair warning that I only play (and write about) fantasy football for fun. I have never done a paid league, and I would not suggest you use my thoughts in a betting situation. I am NOT an expert, and I play for fun.
FAILURE
Part One: My Failures
WOW! I had quite a few whiffs this week on my predictions/suggestions. Five out of the seven, I would deem failures! Here they are…
QB Aaron Rodgers
I predicted his downward trend would continue, but of course he would decid to look good against the Ravens! He finished 23 of 34 passing for 284 yards, and somehow the Ravens allowed the old man to get a rushing touchdown!
WR Zay Flowers
I predicted Zay Flowers to have another sub-par game, but he delivered with a very solid performance: 8 receptions on 11 targets for 124 yards.
WR Adonai Mitchell
For a second straight week, I suggested a Jets receiver on the waiver wire, and once again, this time with Adonai Mitchell, I led you astray. Mitchell finished with only one reception on 6 targets for 24 yards.
TE Darren Waller
I suggested Darren Waller as a waiver wire add, and he did not produce, with just a single reception on 3 targets for 13 yards and a rush for 4 yards.
WR Jayden Higgins
I suggested Jayden Higgins as waiver addition, but he did not put up good numbers: three receptions on 5 targets for 54 yards.
Part Two: This Week’s Player “Failures”
QB Jalen Hurts
Wow! That was bad game for Jalen Hurts, committing five turnovers (4 interceptions and 1 fumble) including becoming the first player to hold the dubious distinction of committing two turnovers on the same play! Beyond the turnovers, he was just above 50% completion percentage (21 of 40) for 240 yards. He didn’t add much in the running game either, producing only four rushes for 8 yards. Hurts has put up solid numbers all season, so I expect him to rebound.
Verdict: FLUKE
QB Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes was only 14 of 33 passing for 160 yards, and he threw three costly interceptions. He added seven rushes for 59 yards. While I don’t trust the Chiefs offense overall to put up big numbers, I expect Mahomes to put up solid numbers from here on out.
Verdict: FLUKE
WR Ladd McConkey
Despite the Chargers coming away with a key win against the Philadelphia Eagles, Ladd McConkey did not have a good game, with just one catch on 5 targets for 12 yards. I expect McConkey to rebound.
Verdict: FLUKE
RB Bijan Robinson
OK, it’s probably unfair to call Bijan Robinson a “failure” in this one, but as far as fantasy managers are concerned, Sunday was a disappointment from what you expect from him. He finished with 20 rushes for 86 yards and two receptions for 8 yards. This was one of his lower outputs against a very good defense, so feel confident leaning on him in your playoffs.
Verdict: FLUKE
TE Travis Kelce
Travis Kelce had a bad game, with just one catch of his 5 targets for 8 yards. That included two drops and a ball that went through his hands and cost the Chiefs and interception! Kelce is not the same player he has been. He will have some moments with big plays, but he is no longer a reliable fantasy TE stud.
Verdict: TREND
TE Mark Andrews
Mark Andrews put up a dud of a performance following his contract extension: one catch on 5 targets for 9 yards. This is the issue with Andrews and much of the Ravens offense. You never know what you will get week-to-week. Andrews may make some key plays and have a few good games, but he can’t be relied on at this time in this offense.
Verdict: TREND
FRUSTRATION
QB Daniel Jones
What a heartbreak to see Daniel Jones go down with an Achilles injury after rejuvenating his career this year.
FAME
Part One: What I Got Right Last Week
WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba
OK, this one was easy. As expected, Jaxon Smith-Njigba had another great game. He finished with seven catches on 10 targets for 92 yards and two touchdowns.
RB Travis Etienne
I predicted Travis Etienne would rebound, and he did so with a very productive game. He ended up with 20 rushes for 74 yards and two touchdowns, adding a reception for 8 yards.
Part Two: Who I Like on the Waiver Wire
I’ll be honest…I’m not seeing much on the waiver wire right now….but here’s a couple suggestions
Jacksonville Defense
The Jacksonville Jaguars defense has been playing well. Plus, if you are streaming defenses, they have a matchup vs. the lowly Jets Week 15.
QB Shedeur Sanders
Shedeur Sanders broke out with a big game. He finished 23 of 42 for 364 yards and 1 TD throwing. He added three rushes for 29 yards and a rushing TD. If you are desperate for a QB (maybe you had Daniel Jones, etc), he might be your best bet on the waiver wire. I don’t expect him to put up great numbers in that offense, but he gives you a chance if you need a QB. He has a decent matchup against the Chicago Bears in Week 15.
