Chicago Bears: ESPN anchor trashes Soldier Field for Indiana stadium
On Thursday, the Chicago Bears appeared to move closer to following through on a plan to build a new stadium in Indiana.
More News: Bears are making a commitment to Indiana for stadium project
The Bears haven’t made much progress with local and state officials in Illinois, causing numerous delays for the team’s ambitions to build at the location in Arlington Heights.
Chicago has played full-time at Soldier Field since 1971. Before that, the Bears played home games at Wrigley Field, the home of the Chicago Cubs.
Soldier Field, owned by the Chicago Park District, has numerous issues. The team has complained about the conditions of the field for years.
Despite being the third largest city in the United States, Soldier Field has the lowest capacity stadium in the league.
ESPN “First Take” host Shae Cornette, a native of Chicago, gave her opinion of Soldier Field. She called the fan experience “horrible” and said the Bears would be better off going to Indiana than keeping playing games at their current home site.
“Soldier Field is notoriously one of the worst stadiums to get in and out of as a fan,” Cornette said. “It is horrible, there is nothing around it. And if you have to move 20 minutes up the road, albeit across state lines, to make the fan experience better, I’m fine with it.”

Chicago Bears need to leave Soldier Field behind

More News: Bears just gave Ben Johnson a gift before 2026 NFL Draft
It’ll be interesting to see if added pressure from Indiana causes Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker to be more generous in offering a tax deal to the Bears.
Bears CEO/president Kevin Warren was hired in 2023 with the job of getting a new stadium built. So far, it’s been slow going for the Bears, who watched the Kansas City Chiefs eclipse them in getting a deal done for a new stadium.
Even the Chicago Fire are set to have a new stadium built in 2028, leaving Soldier Field behind.
