The Chicago Bears foreshadowed a few major moves this offseason.

During the NFL combine, general manager Ryan Poles suggested the Bears could move on from wide receiver DJ Moore and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds.

This week, the Bears traded Moore to the Buffalo Bills and released Edmunds.

Another key player has been the subject of trade rumors this offseason. Chicago has been open about the possibility of trading backup quarterback Tyson Bagent, allowing the undrafted signal-caller to compete for a starting job on another league team.

If the Bears wind up dealing Bagent, head coach Ben Johnson could reunite with a former quarterback he had when he was the offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions.

Per Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom, there has been chatter in NFL circles that Teddy Bridgewater could be an option for former Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle with the Baltimore Ravens.

Bridgewater retired in February of 2024 but returned to the NFL to play for the Lions in December of the 2024 season. He spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season.

La Canfora noted that Bridgewater “mastered” Johnson’s system when the two were together in Detroit. Bridgwater, a first-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2014, is expected to play in the upcoming season.

“Teddy is just relaxing for now, and he normally takes his time,” said a source near to Bridgewater told La Canfora. “But I’m sure he will have opportunities.”

Maybe one of those opportunities could be with the Bears if the team trades Bagent this offseason.

Bridgewater has plenty of experience and could be a benefit for Johnson and third-year quarterback Caleb Williams. He has thrown for 15,182 yards and 75 touchdowns and 47 interceptions during his career.

Even if the Bears keep Bagent, Bridgwater could be another option at quarterback if the team doesn’t re-sign Case Keenum, who signed a one-year deal with Chicago in 2025.
