Chicago White Sox re-sign LaMonte Wade Jr to minor league deal
The Chicago White Sox had to decide to cut some players ahead of Opening Day. One of the players they decided to release was LaMonte Wade Jr. He is a solid veteran presence, but he wanted to see if any teams were interested in putting him on their MLB roster. Noah Phalen of Southside Showdown reports that free agent first baseman LaMonte Wade Jr is signing a minor league contract with the White Sox. He spent Spring Training with the team, but did not make the final 26-man roster. He spent 2025 with the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Angels and had a poor offensive showing. Over 80 games, he had a .167/.271/.254 slash line with two homers, 18 RBI, 19 runs scored, and a 27:58 walk-to-strikeout ratio. However, he was on fire in Spring Training with a 1.034 OPS in 38 at-bats.
Wade can be a solid bench player to be part of the infield if he is eventually called up. However, he is starting in the minor leagues and needs to prove that he can swing the bat well. Wade has also played some corner outfield in his career, so he can be a versatile player. In the minor leagues, he can be a veteran leader to help some of the prospects looking to get the call.
This does not mean we will see Wade get the call to the bigs anytime soon, but it is a good sign for depth in the minors. It will be interesting to see if and when he finds his way to the White Sox.
