Billy Donovan will be key factor in general manager search for Chicago Bulls
The Chicago Bulls picked a direction on Monday afternoon when they fired vice president Arturas Karnisovas and Marc Eversley. After years of being in the play-in round and not improving, the Bulls had to make the decision to move on. And it was the right one.
It also showed their faith in head coach Billy Donovan.
Despite rumored interest with North Carolina, Donovan wanted to wait until the season was over to make a decision on that job. North Carolina went a different direction and hired Michael Malone. A few minutes later, the Bulls fired Karnisovas and Eversley to pick their direction. It showed just how much faith they have in Donovan and on Tuesday, Michael Reinsdorf reiterated that during a press conference.

There’s going to be a decision to make for Billy Donovan by the end of next week. Does he want to stay in Chicago and continue on coaching the Bulls? Or is he going to leave and try to take a new job?
But during Reinsdorf’s presser on Tuesday, it feels like the Bulls are operating with the notion that Donovan will be back. Not only did he mention it should be a ‘quick’ decision for Donovan but he also told the media that the head coach will be a BIG factor in the general manager search.
“If we’re interviewing someone and they’re not sold on Billy and a Hall of Fame coach and person who has won championships in college and gone deep in playoffs in OKC and, given teams he was given, achieved good results in Chicago, then they’re not right candidate for us.”

Wow. That really sounds like they believe Donovan will stay and a big reason why is the decision they made with Karnisovas and Eversley.
Of course, Donovan could change his mind. But it would be a big change for the Bulls’ process in this general manager search.
