Chicago Bears: Ravens wanted to trade for Logan Jones
The Chicago Bears might have found their long-term center in former Iowa center Logan Jones.

After the sudden retirement of Drew Dalman this offseason, the Bears quickly addressed the position by trading with the New England Patriots for Garrett Bradbury and selecting Jones with the with the No. 57 pick (second round).
During an appearance on the “The Ravens Lounge” on Wednesday, Baltimore general manager Eric DeCosta suggested he was willing to trade up for Jones if he fell in the third round.
He had high praise for the Bears’ new center, believing he would have been a Week 1 starter for the Ravens to replace Tyler Linderbaum, another former Iowa center, who signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency.
“It was Logan Jones and Jake Slaughter,” DeCosta said of centers he was looking at taking in the draft. “And we thought both those guys were really, really outstanding players that could really help us come, you know, almost immediately come in and help us…
“And we thought there was a pretty darn good chance that we would have gotten one of those guys in the third. And I was sort of prepared to think about potentially going from 80 up a little bit in the third to get one of those guys if they were there. I’d never really contemplated both guys getting picked after we picked Zion (Young) before the start of the third round.”

As was told to CCS, the Ravens were planning on picking Young in the second round. DeCosta said the Ravens gave him a first-round pick grade.
Baltimore shouldn’t feel too bad about how they built their trenches in the draft. In the first round, Baltimore took offensive guard Vega Ioane, who is considered by many in the league to be the best offensive lineman in the draft.
After the draft, Jones is happy to be with the Bears.
“It reminded me a lot of Iowa; just the culture, the people,” Jones said, via the Bears. “It truly is a special place. I can just tell. I’m just so fortunate. I was hoping I’d get the call and to be able to come play here. To be able to do that, it’s a dream come true.”
Chicago hopes Jones can develop into a center in the ballpark of Linderbaum. Clearly, the Ravens felt like Jones had the potential to become a star in the league, and DeCosta has a strong history of picking good offensive linemen.
