Chicago White Sox: Munetaka Murakami has given fans something they have been lacking- hope
Heading into the 2026 MLB season, no one expected the Chicago White Sox to be any good. After all, they have lost 100+ games in each of the past three seasons. However, fans just wanted to be able to see the team take a step or two in the right direction. Rebuilds are long processes, and fans must suffer through multiple long seasons before seeing them pay off.
While Chicago is currently 11-17, they have been playing better baseball this year. At least, they have been playing better more frequently than they have in the past. This is not to say they are about to go on a run, but for the first time in a long time, fans feel optimistic about the future.
Rookie slugger Munetaka Murakami is a big reason for this.

Perhaps it is no surprise, then, that Bleacher Report named Murakami as the White Sox’ reason to be hopeful in their latest article listing positive developments for each MLB team:
“Munetaka Murakami’s power was never the question. We knew from his past eight years that he could hit baseballs a long, long way. However, teams were worried about the strikeout rate and whether he would be able to consistently hit against Major League pitching. So far, he has been masterful with 11 home runs in his first 113 trips to the plate, including a 451-foot bomb to center on Wednesday night.”
Through 28 games, Murakami is hitting .232/.369/.566 with 11 home runs and 20 RBI. His 11 home runs are tied for the most in the Majors, but his 41 strikeouts are also tops in the American League.
This was always going to be the case for Murakami, though. His tendency to strikeout was well known when the White Sox signed him. The only question was if his power would translate from Japan to Major League Baseball.
So far, it has.
