Craig Counsell isn’t worried about Pete Crow-Armstrong’s slow start

Chicago Cubs Pete Crow-Armstrong

It’s not just the Chicago Cubs that are off to a slower start than imagined this season but star outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong as well. After inking a long-term extension to keep him in Chicago for the foreseeable future, Crow-Armstrong hasn’t looked himself early this season.

In fact, he hit his first home run on Thursday as the Cubs took the second game in a three-game series at Tampa Bay. It was encouraging to see Crow-Armstrong get going with the power and he also had a bunt single in the game too. Now, the task is to use this and get going this season.

But despite the struggles early with power, manager Craig Counsell isn’t worried about his star player.

Following the big win over the Rays, manager Craig Counsell talked about Crow-Armstrong’s night and the home run he hit. He mentioned how he’s not worried about the lack of power so far.

“I think you could probably say that about most guys, I think that, look this is game 11,” Counsell said. “Pete is going to hit home runs this year. It was always good to see the first one, that’s for sure. It’s good to get a zero off the board. It just is. You just get the zero off the board. That’s a big deal.”

In his breakout season a year ago, Crow-Armstrong hit 31 home runs and drove in 95 RBI’s. That helped him get that contract extension to stay in Chicago. Now, the hope is that he can replicate it or something close to it.

But even with a slow start, there shouldn’t be panic.
