Favorite for Chicago Bulls executive job emerges, per report
The search for a new lead executive in the Chicago Bulls front office continues on. After the initial round of interviews, the Bulls have narrowed the list down to four candidates.
Chicago will now move forward with Minnesota Timberwolves general manager Matt Lloyd, Atlanta Hawks Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations Bryson Graham, Boston Celtics assistant general manager Dave Lewin and Detroit Pistons Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations Dennis Lindsey. The next step is in-person interviews with the candidates.
With Chicago wanting to get this done quick, this should be a a fast moving process. However, a new report out suggests that there is already a favorite emerging to land the job.
Will Chicago Bulls bring back a familiar face?
Just a day after the finalists were announced, HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto wrote on the current situation for the Bulls. He noted that Matt Lloyd is the presumed favorite to get the job:
Elsewhere, Connelly’s right-hand man and Minnesota’s general manager, Matt Lloyd, is considered arguably the front runner for the lead executive role with the Chicago Bulls. If Lloyd indeed is hired by the Bulls, Timberwolves lead assistant coach Micah Nori will be a strong candidate for Chicago’s head coaching position.
There’s a few things in there that are important. Lloyd obviously being the favorite is the big one. He got his start in Chicago as a scout and worked his way up the ranks. He’s been instrumental in the building of the Timberwolves roster.
Getting someone in here to build this thing up through the draft and free agency should be important for the Bulls.
The other note is a potential coaching connection.
As Scotto mentions, if Lloyd does get the job it would make sense for him to bring in assistant coach Micah Nori as the head coach. He’s been an assistant in the league since 2009, spending time with Toronto, Sacramento, Denver, Detroit and most recently Minnesota.
He’s been the lead assistant in Minnesota since 2021 and even conducts the in-game interviews for the staff. Nori has a lot of experience and it might be the perfect time for his shot at being a head coach.
