Indiana Fever GM issues statement after major team development
The Indiana Fever were at the center of some historic WNBA news on Friday. This is after the team signed three-time All-Star Aliyah Boston to the biggest contract in league history.
Boston, who had one year left in her rookie contract, signed the first-ever Exceptional Performance on Initial Contract (EPIC) deal. This came out to a staggering $6.3 million for four years. The Fever have locked in the 24-year-old forward through 2029.
Boston is coming off her best season in Indiana. She finished fifth in the MVP race in 2025 behind averages of 15.0 points on 53.8% shooting, 8.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.2 steals in 30.2 minutes per contest.
Indiana Fever GM Amber Cox Reacts to Aliyah Boston Deal
Fever general manager Amber Cox sent a strong message after the team successfully signed Boston to a new contract.
“Entering just her fourth season, Aliyah is already one of the best players in the WNBA,” Cox declared, via the Fever’s official website. “She’s been a foundational piece of the Indiana Fever since she was drafted here in 2023. We’re thrilled to be able to reward her with this new contract and make history, and most importantly, lock her in as a cornerstone of the Fever for years to come.”
Cox had a lot more to say about Boston. The Fever boss expressed the organization’s confidence in the 23-year-old as Boston helps lead Indiana in the coming years.
“Despite already being an All-WNBA caliber player, Aliyah has just scratched the surface in terms of the player she can become,” Cox continued. “In addition, her intangibles are unmatched. She is a leader, a connector and consistent contributor to our community. There is not a better person to go down in history as the first recipient of this type of groundbreaking agreement.”
Boston is considered a key cog in the Fever’s core, and her unprecedented contract is a testament to this. Alongside cornerstone superstar Caitlin Clark, Boston is expected to carry the torch for the franchise for many years to come.
