NFL analysts believe this player can change Chicago Bears’ fortune overnight
The Chicago Bears have plenty of needs to fill ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft. With just a week until the league descends on Pittsburgh to welcome in a new rookie class, there hasn’t been much in terms of hints and where the Bears are leaning.
Most of those needs are on the defensive side of the football, needing a pass rusher, defensive tackle, safety and defensive back. There’s really no telling what Chicago will do when its time to pick at No. 25 but if they do target an edge rusher, one in particular is getting praise.
On the latest episode of The Athletic Football Show, Robert Mays and Mike Renner discussed a prospect that fits what the Chicago Bears need on their defense. He hasn’t been a popular pick compared to others but they have high hopes for him if he is selected by the Bears.
Akheem Mesidor can change the Chicago Bears
When discussing Miami edge rusher Akheem Mesidor, the two agreed that he is a good fit for the Bears.
“I like Akheem Mesidor for this team because their window is tomorrow. As much as I like Austin Booker, he’s probably better as a third down guy or just as a pass rush down guy. Mesidor can be an early down guy. He can also kick inside on third downs,” Renner said. “He played the second most snaps in college football this year. He doesn’t come off the field and can be an every down sort of guy for you.”

Now, the negative around Mesidor in this draft cycle is his age. He’s 25-years-old and is considered an ‘older’ prospect in this draft. That might turn some teams off as Renner mentioned his rookie deal is his career length at the moment.
But for a team like the Bears who believes the window is open for a run, it would make sense.
