Sophie Cunningham has a hunch after Indiana Fever move

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

WNBA: Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham

Sophie Cunningham is not going anywhere. The 29-year-old erased any and all uncertainty surrounding her future with the Indiana Fever by agreeing to a new deal with the team. On Sunday, the Fever announced that Cunningham had signed a one-year contract to remain in Indiana.

Cunningham was a key player for the Fever in 2025 following her preseason trade from the Phoenix Mercury. The 6-foot-1 guard made an immediate impact on both sides of the ball. Cunningham also served as a vocal leader for the squad and made her physical presence felt against the opposition.

The Fever were clearly determined to retain her services for 2026, and that’s exactly what they did.

Sophie Cunningham addresses new deal with Indiana Fever

Cunningham sent a strong message after her Fever move. The former Missouri Tigers star expressed her excitement about signing a new deal while addressing some unfinished business.

“We had a really special group last year and it was an incredible first season for me in Indy; I loved everything about my teammates and the Fever organization,” she said. “We fought through a ton of adversity, and it was important to me that we have a chance to see through what we started.”

Cunningham then went on to share a hunch about the upcoming campaign.

“I have a feeling this is going to be another special season, so I’m excited to get things started and to, of course, keep playing in front of the best fans in the WNBA,” she continued. “Let’s get spicy!”

Caitlin Clark is still going to be Indiana’s cornerstone superstar. However, the two-time All-Star is going to need all the help she can get as she looks to lead the Fever to their first WNBA championship since 2012. And this is exactly why Cunningham is staying on board.
