Bulls trade rumor gains even more steam after latest NBA insider report

The Chicago Bulls definitely have some work to do heading into the NBA offseason, as they won just 31 games this past year and have posted just one winning campaign over the last decade.

The Bulls are now rolling with a new regime, as they recently hired Bryson Graham as their new top executive, and while they still need to find a head coach, they at least have some sort of direction with Graham now at the helm.

The question is whether or not Graham wants to completely revamp this roster or if he feels there are some pieces who could be a part of the process moving forward.

One name to watch in particular is Josh Giddey, who just averaged 17 points, 9.1 assists and 8.3 rebounds over 32.1 minutes on 44.8/36.4/76.3 shooting splits. He signed a four-year, $100 million contract extension with Chicago last September, but that was before the front office shakeup.

Does Graham view Giddey as a mainstay? Brett Sigel of ClutchPoints isn’t so sure.

Sigel wonders if Graham actually wants to move forward with Giddey, noting that the 23-year-old doesn’t seem to fit the mold for the new exec.

“Graham laid out in his press conference that he wants guys that are hard-nosed, can play on both ends of the court, athletic, length,” Sigel said on Clutch Scoops. “So it draws major questions about where Josh Giddey fits in with the future of this organization.”

While Giddey did log one steal per game during the 2025-26 campaign, he is not actually known for being a defensive dynamo, and the fact that he is under contract through 2029 — with no options — could result in Graham wanting to clear his salary.

It’s not that Giddey has a bad contract. He is making just $25 million annually, which some may view as a steal in the modern era. However, if the Australian native doesn’t possess the traits Graham wants in a star player, he may view the contract as a weight.

There would surely be some teams interested in Giddey, who is a versatile playmaker and has been steadily impressive throughout his five-year career. But it’s also entirely possible that he has already hit his ceiling, and his lack of defensive acumen could make him more difficult to trade than some would initially expect.
