Chicago Bears connected to 7-time All-Pro pass-rusher

Ryan Poles, Chicago Bears

Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles suggested defensive coordinator Dennis Allen and his staff needed to coach the defensive line better in the upcoming season after the team waited until the sixth round to take a player for the unit, Jordan van den Berg.

Poles said the Bears would keep their options open this offseason, meaning the team could add a pass-rusher in free agency or via trade. With Chicago needing to make the most of quarterback Caleb Williams’ rookie window, such a move would be ideal.

During an appearance on 104.3 The Score, Brian Baldinger of the NFL Network named Von Miller and Jadeveon Clowney as two pass-rushers still in free agency that the Bears could target.

“I would say Von Miller led the (Washington) Commanders in sacks last year with nine,” Baldinger said. “I’m around Von a lot… We do some things together. I go to Sack Summit every year. Like Von Miller is a guy, I’m sure Von’s just sitting back, I’m sure his phone is ringing, but he’s a guy that I would be very interested in.

“He’s healthy. He’s been healthy. Had a good season last year, played 30 to 35 percent of the snaps, got nine sacks. Can still know what he’s doing. Jadeveon Clowney is good everywhere he goes… He’s not a great pass rusher, but he’s a freaky athlete. Still, I thought he helped out Dallas a great deal last year, and so I would always be interested in Jadeveon.”

The Chicago Bears should call Von Miller

With the Bears needing a true pass-rusher, Miller, a seven-time All-Pro, should be at the top of their wish list at defensive end this offseason. Miller is a two-time Super Bowl champion. At 37, he’s coming off a productive season with the Commanders, recording 26 total tackles and six tackles for loss in addition to the nine sacks.

Miller wouldn’t be that expensive for Chicago. In 2025, he signed a one-year deal for $6.1 million, with up to $10.5 million in incentives. He’d be a huge addition for a defense that’s looking to make a postseason run.
