Chicago Bears’ Luther Burden speaks out on Green Bay Packers incident
Chicago Bears wide receiver Luther Burden III recently addressed one of the most controversial moments of his rookie season. It happened during Chicago’s Week 14 game against the Green Bay Packers on Dec. 7. Burden got involved in a physical altercation with Packers cornerback Keisean Nixon during the divisional matchup at Lambeau Field.
The confrontation occurred during the second quarter following a rushing attempt by Bears running back Kyle Monangai. Burden exchanged words with Packers cornerback Carrington Valentine before Nixon intervened and confronted Burden face-to-face. The 22-year-old Bears wideout responded by placing his hand around Nixon’s neck.
Game officials initially penalized Nixon 15 yards for the exchange. The NFL later reviewed the footage to ensure proper discipline. League officials then fined Burden $11,075 for his actions, while Nixon was cleared of any financial penalty.

In a recent social media post, Burden spoke about the controversial throat-grabbing incident and called it an accident.
“People love that [expletive]. Little do they know it was on accident, It wasn’t even for him,” the Bears wideout said. “Bro got in some [expletive] that wasn’t even you know… I wasn’t even talking to him, bro. He just walked up on me… Now that’s history. History on accident.”
Luther Burden says it was actually an accident when he choked Packers CB Kesean Nixon:

Burden finished the game with 67 receiving yards on four receptions. However, Nixon had the last laugh for the Packers despite the penalty. He intercepted a pass on the final play to secure a 28–21 win.
Burden’s rookie season started with significant struggles. He recorded negative receiving yards in three of his first seven games.
Burden eventually flourished under head coach Ben Johnson’s offensive scheme and gained the trust of star quarterback Caleb Williams. He finished the 2025 season with 47 receptions for 652 yards and 2 touchdowns. His yardage ranked third among all NFL rookie wide receivers.
Entering the 2026 season, expectations for Burden are high. He is projected to lead a revamped Bears offense alongside wide receiver Rome Odunze.
The Bears-Packers rivalry is the NFL’s oldest and most-played, dating back to 1921.
