Chicago Cubs land top-3 spot in latest MLB power rankings
The Chicago Cubs are 27-14 and currently lead the National League Central Division by 3.5 games. While they have lost two games in a row (in shutout fashion), they recently won 10 games in a row for the second time this season. Up next, they travel to take on the Atlanta Braves in a three-game series, which will put them up against a team with a very similar record as theirs.
Despite their last two losses, no one is sleeping on the Cubs anymore. They have endured injury after injury in the starting rotation, yet keep on finding ways to win.
The Chicago Cubs take the third spot in BR’s MLB power rankings
Before the 2026 MLB season began, many baseball experts picked the Cubs win the National League Central Division. Their slow start to the year, though, had many second-guessing their predictions.
As mentioned, though, Chicago is now one of the handful teams throughout the history of the game to post two different 10-game winning streaks in the same year, and the Cubs have played just 41 games.
Due to their recent blazing success, Bleacher Report has ranked them as the third-best team in Major League Baseball:
“The Cubs are riding a 15-game winning streak at Wrigley Field following their four-game sweep of the Reds last week, and have already ripped off a pair of 10-game winning streaks overall through their first 41 games. Veteran Michael Conforto is 7-for-14 with three doubles and two home runs in May.”
Indeed, Chicago has needed contributors from all over their roster in order to help them get this far. Outfielder Michael Conforto has bounced back from his horrendous 2025 season better than the Cubs may have hoped.
Last year, he hit .199/.305/.333 with 12 home runs and 36 RBI for the Los Angeles Dodgers. So far this year, he is hitting .364/.473/.659 with two home runs and eight RBI in Chicago.
