Chicago White Sox pitcher fires clear warning shot before facing Cubs
The Chicago White Sox have been one of the best stories in baseball this season, and they are also one of the league’s hottest teams.
Following their three-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals, the White Sox have now won five games in a row to move above the .500 mark for the first time since 2023 Opening Day. They are neck-and-neck with the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central, and now, they’ll get the chance to continue their streak against the crosstown rival Chicago Cubs.
The White Sox will be opening up a three-game set with the Cubs at Rate Field on Friday night in a rivalry matchup that will finally have some juice.
The Sox have been one of the worst teams in baseball since 2022, and between 2023 and 2025, they topped out at 61 wins.
That certainly appears to be changing this season, and before battling the Cubbies, White Sox pitcher Anthony Kay fired off a clear warning.

There is no question the White Sox have great camaraderie right now, and Kay feels this is just the beginning.
“It’s so fun. Everyone is cheering for each other,” Kay said after his victory over the Royals on Thursday. “Everyone is pulling in the right direction. You see the energy. It’s going to be really fun. We are clicking on all cylinders and it’s only going to get better.”
Just in time for the Cubs series.
Obviously, Kay himself will not be facing the Cubbies after having just pitched against Kansas City, but it’s clear that he is expecting the White Sox to continue rolling even with the NL Central leaders coming into the building Friday evening.
Kay has logged a 4.61 ERA through nine appearances and seven starts this season, allowing 44 hits and registering 29 strikeouts over 41 innings of work.
While his overall numbers aren’t pretty, the 31-year-old has absolutely pitched better recently, surrendering two runs or less in each of his last three outings. That included going a season-high six innings in the series finale against the Royals.
Kay signed with the White Sox back in December after spending a couple of years in Japan.
