Pat Murphy fires yet another shot at Cubs in truly unbearable fashion

The Chicago Cubs seem to have a Milwaukee Brewers problem. The Cubs lost the NL Central to the Brewers last season, then fell to them in the NLDS. Now, in 2026, Chicago is losing to Milwaukee yet again.

In spite of multiple 10-game winning streaks amid an extraordinary start to the campaign, the Cubs have now fallen behind the Brewers after two straight losses to them in their three-game series, leaving Chicago searching for answers.

Milwaukee has been pushing all the right buttons, both offensively and with its pitching staff. Meanwhile, the banged-up Cubs just can’t seem to find solutions and have now lost eight of their last 10 games overall.

To make matters worse, Brewers manager Pat Murphy — the two-time defending NL Manager of the Year — has continued to be a complete nuisance. Not just in his ability to outmanage Craig Counsell, but in getting under the skin of Chicago and its fans.

What did he do this time? Well, just look at the comments he made after Milwaukee’s first win of this three-game set.

Pat Murphy shades the Chicago Cubs yet again

Murphy has become pretty well-known for his back-handed remarks and wise cracks, and in the first meeting between his Brewers and the Cubs this year, he decided to take yet another shot at the North Siders.

“We know how these series go,” Murphy told reporters. “They don’t even know most of our guys’ names, you know what I mean? So they’re never going to be intimidated by us, but we’re not looking for that. We’re looking to turn around and play good again.”

In other words, “We know how these series go. We always beat the Cubs even though they disrespect us without knowing who we are.”

In a sense, Murphy might kind of be right. The Brewers are never known for being flashy. They never have a ton of big names (which is also a big reason why they can’t seem to get over the hump in the playoffs, but hey, who’s counting?). But lately, they always seem to beat Chicago.

Entering play on Wednesday, Milwaukee is 28-18 and at the top of the division. The Cubs are 28-19, and while they are just one game back in the loss column, who can’t help but feel the Brewers have seized all of the momentum they’ve needed … again.

The worst part? Milwaukee is doing all of this at Wrigley Field.
