This is the biggest question for the Chicago Sky entering the 2026 WNBA season

The Chicago Sky have made significant changes to the roster throughout the offseason, shaking up the team that went 10-34 a year ago. With some major changes, there are some questions regarding this year’s team. With the regular season tipping off for Chicago on Saturday night, what is the biggest question entering the season? Let’s take a closer look at what one outlet believes it to be and why that is.

The Chicago Sky’s biggest question surrounds Kamilla Cardoso

Annie Costabile and Sabreena Merchant of The Athletic had an article regarding a question of each WNBA franchise heading into the season. For Chicago, the biggest question surrounds center Kamilla Cardoso. Below is what they wrote about the team:

“The Sky concluded this season that [Angel] Reese and Kamilla Cardoso weren’t a compatible long-term frontcourt duo. They chose to move forward with Cardoso, even though Reese is already a two-time All-Star and the single-season record-holder for average rebounds. The theory with Cardoso is that she is 6-foot-7 and has the physical tools to be a dominant center; as a South Carolina senior, she was an All-American and the most outstanding player in the Final Four. However, her motor and production have been inconsistent in her two pro seasons, and the Sky were statistically better with her off the court during the 2025 season. Cardoso needs to be a consistent rim-runner, roller and paint protector to validate Chicago’s belief.”

Cardoso is entering her third season in the WNBA. In 72 games (68 starts), she averages 11.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.3 blocks. She is shooting 52.6% from the floor and 72.4% from the free-throw line. The roster has completely shifted around her, essentially making her the star of the franchise. With the Sky now looking like a more complete roster, there is not as much pressure for her to dominate for the team to be successful. It will be intriguing to see how the Sky look centered around Cardoso this season.
