Chicago Fire targeting Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski with mega offer?
The Chicago Fire could be entering the mix for an international star according to the latest reports. With the Fire off to a good start, recording 17 points through 10 games, they could be active in the Summer transfer window.
The latest report on Friday suggests that the Fire are pushing hard to add a premier talent to their lineup. With Robert Lewandowski seemingly on the outs at FC Barcelona, the Fire could make a strong push.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Fire are in position to make a strong offer for Lewandowski with a contract worth €20 million per season including bonuses.
The Chicago Fire confirm interest?
Fire sporting director Gregg Broughton has also confirmed the interest in landing someone like Lewandowski.
“Robert is a player that MLS is interested in,” Broughton said. “It’s important to remember that in MLS, players belong to the league, not directly to the clubs.
“We have shown our interest in trying to bring a player of that caliber to Chicago. Robert is still a Barcelona player, and it wouldn’t be right to talk too much about a player who is under contract with another club.”
The 37-year-old Lewandowski isn’t in his prime any more but he’s a player that would fit the style of the Fire’s play. Adding that veteran presence would also be a huge boost for the club as well.
