Chicago White Sox jump into top-10 of latest MLB power rankings
Heading into the 2026 MLB season, Chicago White Sox fans wanted to see one thing: improvement. After three consecutive seasons in which the White Sox lost 100+ games, fans just wanted to see steps taken in the right direction. No one, not even the most faithful of fans (looking at you, Pope Leo), expected them to actually play consistent winning baseball.
And yet, here Chicago is on June 1, 32-27, owners of a five-game winning streak, and one game out of first place in the American League Central Division. If the season were to end today, they would be in the MLB Playoffs with a Wild Card.
The Chicago White Sox grab a top-10 spot in latest MLB power rankings
At the beginning of the year, the White Sox were consistently ranked last or close-to-last in various power rankings. Over the last several weeks, they have started to creep higher and higher up on these lists.
On Monday, Bleacher Report had them ranked 10th after having them ranked 17th last season:
“There is no shortage of evidence to show how vastly improved this White Sox team has been, but the most telling might be that they have yet to record a losing streak longer than three games. The Munetaka Murakami injury is a blow, but former first-round pick Jacob Gonzalez was hitting .317/.419/.668 with 19 home runs and 62 RBI through 52 games at Triple-A, and now he gets a chance to make his mark.”
How consistently the White Sox are able to win without Munetaka Murakami will go a long way in determining how successful the next month of the season will be for them. The Japanese slugger, who leads the American League with 20 home runs and 43 runs scored, is out four-to-six weeks with a grade two hamstring strain.
Jacob Gonzalez was called up to take Murakami’s spot on the roster. With nothing left to prove at Triple-A, hopefully his batting eye and power translate to the Majors sooner rather than later.
