Chicago Cubs: Pete Crow-Armstrong on silencing doubters after 4-5 night
The Chicago Cubs bounced back from a disappointing series opener against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday by dismantling them 6-1 on Saturday night. Ben Brown was absolutely electric on the mound, stepping up in a big way as the Cubs’ starting rotation continues to take hit after hit.
But the star of the night was center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong, who had a huge night at the plate and flashed the kind of defense that won him a Gold Glove in 2025.

Entering play on Saturday, Crow-Armstrong was not performing well as Chicago’s lead-off hitter. Prior to his performance last night, he was hitting just .192/.333/.269 at the top of the lineup.
But on Saturday, he was 4-5 from the plate with a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored. He also ended the game with a highlight reel catch in centerfield.
Afterwards, he talked about silencing the doubters and complimented the Cardinals and their fans:
“They got like hundreds of shirtless guys out in right field. Interesting theme for the year, but they’re rowdy and they’re showing up, like they’re buying into something, so I can appreciate it.
“We love playing against the Cardinals too, like in division rivals, always fun. And it’s nice that they got a really good squad this year, and they’re playing good.”
The tarps-off section was chanting “overrated” at Crow-Armstrong as he was hitting, and he responded by smashing his home run into their section, the perfect way to silence the taunt.
If this performance is a sign of things to come from PCA, the Cubs are going to be in excellent shape.
