Chicago Bears: Gov JB Pritzker working with team on Chicago plan
On Wednesday, multiple reports surfaced that the Chicago Bears plan to reveal updates on Thursday about their new stadium project that will be of interest to officials in Hammond, Indiana.
Earlier this week, Bears chairman George McCaskey said the team was doing due diligence on a second site in Hammond. He claimed there was nothing new to update on talks regarding the potential site in Arlington Heights.
On Thursday, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker claimed that he’s still in communication with the Bears. He’s hoping to keep the Bears in Illinois, and said he’s open to keeping the team in the “Windy City” if the plan for Arlington Heights doesn’t work out.
“We’ve had contact our staff, their staff, and we’re working hard to make sure that there’s an opportunity for the Bears to stay in the state of Illinois, whether it’s in Chicago or in Arlington Heights,” Pritzker said, via Ben Szalinski of Capitol News Illinois.

Per Brenden Moore, Pritzker added that he did not know what McCaskey and CEO/president Kevin Warren plan to reveal later on Thursday. He also said the Bears haven’t “presented language” for a megaprojects bill to pass in Illinois.
“(The Bears) have various things that they’ve talked to us about, but they haven’t presented language in a bill to us,” Pritzker said.
Amid Pritzker’s hopes to keep the Bears in Chicago, something that didn’t seem possible a year ago but has made headlines amid Mayor Brandon Johnson’s push in the spring, the team seems to be moving along with plans to move across to the board to Northwest Indiana.
The Bears have been slow to finish feasibility (traffic) studies for the Arlington Heights location. That site would need serious infrastructure improvements. It remains unclear how serious Chicago would be to give the Bears what they want to stay in the city that bears their team name.
