Chicago White Sox land 3x All-Star pitcher in trade with Seattle Mariners
The Chicago White Sox are 58-52 on the season and hold a 2.5 game lead in the American League Central Division. As they prepare for an unexpected playoff push, it is clear that the team is in need of starting pitching and catching help.
On Saturday night, they addressed one of those needs, agreeing to a trade with the Seattle Mariners for a three-time All-star starting pitcher.
The Chicago White Sox acquire Luis Castillo in a trade with the Seattle Mariners
As first reported on X by ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the White Sox have acquired three-time All-Star pitcher Luis Castillo:
BREAKING: The Chicago White Sox are acquiring right-hander Luis Castillo in a trade with the Seattle Mariners for reliever Seranthony Dominguez, outfielder Nolan Jones and catching prospect Boston Smith, sources tell ESPN.

In order to get Castillo, Chicago had to send reliever Seranthony Dominguez, Nolan Jones, and catching prospect Boston Smith.
Castillo is having a down year in Seattle. Leading up to the trade, he was 3-9 with a 5.06 ERA in 20 games (17 starts). This is a huge plummet in production from 2025, when he was 11-8 with a 3.54 ERA.
He was last an All-Star in 2023 when he went 14-9 with a 3.34 ERA in 33 starts for the Mariners.
In his career, Castillo is 87-93 with a 3.65 ERA. He spent the first five-and-a-half years with the Cincinnati Reds before being traded to Seattle in 2022. That was the year he made his second career All-Star team. In 25 starts between the Reds and Mariners, he was 8-6 with a 2.99 ERA.
Castillo’s first All-Star season was in 2019 when he was 15-8 with a 3.40 ERA.
In 2021, he led the Major Leagues in losses, going 8-16 with a 3.98 ERA.
