OTL: Good Injury News Ahead of First Preseason Game

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Welcome back, Ravens Flock.

As we prepare for Saturday’s preseason opener, we have some great news as far as injury updates from Jesse Minter, as well as an update on exactly who will be playing when the Ravens take the field.

Let’s get to these injuries first:

Talk about a sigh of relief when it comes to Nate Wiggins. I think we all would have been relieved to even hear that Nate was just going to miss the start of the regular season. Instead, we got better news than even the most optimistic fan expected. When that cart comes out for any player, we all hold our breath, but especially for the Ravens, it seems like more often than not, it means the worst. We heard that the entire mood of the practice shifted once Wiggins went down. That should show you all you need to know about how important he is to the Ravens.

Additional good news on Marlon Humphrey was the cherry on top. It’s nice to have dodged these bullets. Here’s to the good injury luck continuing. Ozzie Newsome did always say you can’t have too many corners, because that depth is going to get tested, and the Ravens have gone through that far too often in their history.

With that out of the way, one of the things I was curious about is just how much the starters were going to play this preseason. How will Minter approach the August contests? Well, we got at least a partial answer to that question:

This is really exciting to see. I love that Minter is willing to give important players at least some time in these early games. It’s important for players – especially rookies expected to start – to get reps in actual game situations. I understand teams being worried about potential injuries, but that’s a risk you have to take at least some of the time. Rookies need to see the difference between NFL speed (even in preseason) versus college speed. I fully support Minter getting guys like Vega Ioane into in these games.

Finally, here’s a clip of new o-line Dwayne Ledford coach coaching Ronnie Stanley that really caught my eye:

This is the type of attention to detail that we’ve been hearing reports of coming out of camp, and it’s exactly what I’m talking about, man. Every video I see of these guys makes me have more faith in them working out. The fact that Dwayne Ledford was able to pick out something like this and help out a veteran like Ronnie Stanley is so cool. I’m not saying these kinds of conversations weren’t happening in the past, but it does just feel different now.

Enjoy the first preseason game. Let’s come out healthy, huh?
