Chicago Bears checked in on availability for Maxx Crosby and Trey Hendrickson before trade deadline
Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles stayed quiet at the 2025 trade deadline. Instead of being aggressive like in the past, he only made one small trade to add a little bit of depth for the pass rush. The Bears traded a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for edge rusher Joe Tyron-Shoyinka. The former 2021 first-round pick has not made a significant impact in his NFL career, and he will likely serve as a depth piece for this depleted pass rush.

While the Bears still could use a major upgrade at the pass rush, Poles stood pat at the deadline. However, it seems the Bears attempted to see if any major-name pass rushers were available for a trade.
According to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin, the Bears checked on the availability of players such as Maxx Crosby and Trey Hendrickson.

Poles spoke to the media on Wednesday following the trade deadline. According to Cronin, Poles said that they “checked up all those guys you would imagine just to see the availability”. This likely meant exploring the idea of trading for a star such as Crosby or Hendrickson, who are either wanting to leave their team or stuck on a team that is on a rebuild.
Ryan Poles said the Bears checked “up all of the guys you would imagine just to see the availability” when asked about trying to make bigger name acquisitions (i.e. Maxx Crosby, Trey Hendrickson caliber players) at the deadline.

Likely, the Bears did not make any progress on a deal due to the asking price being way too much or the other team being simply uninterested in trading their top players. It was previously reported that the team tried to trade for Jermaine Johnson of the New York Jets, but did not go through with it due to the asking price being too high.
While I agree the Bears did the right thing by not giving up a second-round pick for an injury-prone Johnson, they should have added another pass rusher, even if it was just another rotational piece.
However, this gives rising Austin Booker a massive opportunity to prove himself. The second-year defensive end made his season debut during Week 9’s victory. Booker sacked Joe Flacco, forcing a fumble on the opening play of the fourth quarter against the Bengals. Booker also had a very impressive training camp over the summer.
It seems that the Bears are very confident in starting Booker for the remainder of the season.
