There has been a lot to like about the Chicago Bears’ first 10 games of the season.
First-year head coach Ben Johnson leads a first-place team into Sunday’s showdown against Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Quarterback Caleb Williams has already etched his name into the franchise record book with five comeback victories this season and is on pace for a 4,000-passing-yard campaign, and Dennis Allen’s defense is coming up huge in big spots of games.
Sunday against the Steelers presents yet another opportunity to gain some validation, and build momentum towards a potential postseason run ahead.
Chicago Bears’ takeways have been key
Over at Bleacher Report, NFL analyst Brad Gagnon lists one stat that is powering each team across the league, with the Bears’ league-best turnover differential making the cut for Chicago.
“The Bears’ league-best turnover margin is plus-16 this season,” Gagnon writes of Chicago. “”And it’s actually plus-18 since the team started 0-2. That combined with a tied-for-league-high five fourth-quarter comebacks explains why 7-3 Chicago is in the process of shocking the NFC North.”
Chicago’s defense features two of the NFL’s turnover kings, with safety Kevin Byard and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds setting the pace, league-wide, with five and four interceptions, respectively. Meanwhile, Williams has only thrown four interceptions, showing a marked improvement in ball security while playing three consecutive games without tossing an interception.
If the Bears are able to keep up even a semblance of this pace, this is going to be a team that NFC contenders aren’t going to want to be staring across the sideline at when the playoffs get underway.
