White Sox hinted as shocking potential destination for Cody Bellinger

Could the Chicago White Sox actually make a play for Cody Bellinger in MLB free agency?

You wouldn’t think they would have the slightest chance given that they have been one of the worst teams in baseball the past several years, but Bellinger’s agent, Scott Boras, has hinted at potential interested from the White Sox.

While speaking about Bellinger at the Winter Meetings, Boras shared a riddle in which he dropped some fairly obvious context clues for teams that are pursuing his client, and he appeared to mention the White Sox.

“It’s not for me to Judge. Great players see Red,” Boras said, via Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. “If they have a big bat Yanked out of their lineup. I haven’t Met a team that Dodges a five-tool player to Phil the center field need in a Giant step toward the playoffs. North and South. Outfielders that fly with power, they’re rare birds.

“There’s a lot of Angel investors that are looking for versatile outfielders. Other than that, Belli doesn’t have much interest.”

Could Cody Bellinger be bound for the Chicago White Sox?

The key phrase there is “North and South,” a potential reference to the North and South side of Chicago. Of course, the Sox represent the latter.

Chicago could unquestionably use Bellinger’s services in its outfield, especially with Luis Robert Jr. on the free-agent market himself. Bellinger slashed .272/.334/.480 with 29 home runs and 98 RBI over 656 plate appearances with the New York Yankees in 2025 while playing elite defense, particularly at the corner outfield positions.

The question is, would Bellinger actually want to sign with the White Sox?

You would assume that the 30-year-old would prefer to join a contender, and Chicago is definitely not that. Plus, Bellinger is projected to land a contract that spans at least five years and could be worth in the neighborhood of $200 million. Would the White Sox actually be willing to go that far for an aging player with an injury history?

Of course, we have to keep in mind that this is coming from Boras, who is the best agent in the sport for a reason. It’s entirely possible the Southsiders briefly checked in on Bellinger, but the idea of him actually putting pen to paper for the Chicago White Sox seems highly unlikely.
