But Doyle isn’t done flirting with a new opportunity for 2026.

Doyle is set to enter his second season as an offensive coordinator. However, Doyle does not call the plays in Chicago. That’s the duty of head coach Ben Johnson.

Doyle is expected to be a head coaching candidate in the 2027 hiring cycle. His best chance of landing an elite job next year might be to resurrect quarterback Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Doyle is having conversations with the Ravens, who recently hired Jesse Minter as their head coach. That could be bad news for the Bears.

“Well, they’ve been talking to the Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, they’ve been monitoring Davis Webb who interviewed for the Raiders head coaching job and has been with the Broncos as the Broncos passing game coordinator,” Schefter said on ESPN.

“They know they have a huge higher on their hands to make in Buffalo that will be instrumental in helping to elevate the play of Lamar Jackson.”

Both Doyle and Webb served under head coach Sean Payton with the Broncos. The Broncos nearly made the Super Bowl this season, but lost by three points to the New England Patriots after Denver backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham had to start in the AFC championship.

Minter has a good reason to choose Doyle, who helped develop quarterbacks Bo Nix and Caleb Williams. Minter wants an offensive coordinator that build around Jackson.

“Look at the clips of what Jesse Minter said when he was the Chargers defensive coordinator and they had to go up against Lamar Jackson, he said at that point in time when Justin Herbert was his quarterback, that Lamar Jackson is one-of-one–the best player in the league.

“He wasn’t even as clear today about it as he was back then when he was going up against Lamar Jackson. They are now looking for that offensive coordinator that they believe can help restore Lamar Jackson’s play and bring him back to an MVP level.”

Doyle could parlay the Ravens’ offensive coordinator job for better head coaching gig next year. If Doyle stays at the Bears, he’ll still be under Johnson’s shadow.
