Chicago Bulls have the assets to trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo ahead of NBA Trade Deadline
The Chicago Bulls have been looking like they are improving as we approach the NBA Trade Deadline. They have a lot of decisions to make, and Giannis Antetokounmpo could be on the move before the deadline hits. Chicago could be one of the teams to land him if he is traded, so let’s take a look at what one analyst believes in their chances to land the veteran superstar this season.
The Chicago Bulls could make a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade work ahead of the trade deadline
ESPN’s Bobby Marks wrote an article where he put the 29 other teams in tiers for making a trade for Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo. He placed the Bulls in the ‘Trade assets, but with long-term risk’ tier and wrote the following for Chicago:
“Getting salaries to match is easy, considering the Bulls have eight players on expiring contracts, including Nikola Vucevic, Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu. They also have five tradable first-round picks and young players in Josh Giddey and Matas Buzelis. A trade for Antetokounmpo and the cost to acquire him would put tremendous pressure on the front office to add in free agency. The Bulls could have over $60 million in cap space.”
Adding a player like Antetokounmpo would obviously be a tremendous boost for the Bulls, but with a calf injury that can take 4 to 6 weeks to recover, it will be intriguing to see if he is moved before the NBA Trade Deadline. Chicago may not be the obvious destination for him, but could be a good spot to continue his career. Antetokounmpo is in the first year of a three-year, $175 million contract extension and has a player option for the 2027-28 season. This trade package may not be the best the Bucks will have for the two-time NBA MVP, but it is a realistic option to match salaries and get draft compensation for the franchise.
It will be interesting to see if Chicago is in the mix ahead of the trade deadline for him. If they are, it could be a massive boost for the ninth seed in the Eastern Conference.
