Ryan Poles has high hopes for Chicago Bears’ Rookie in Year 2
The 2025 season didn’t quite go as the Chicago Bears or second-round rookie Shemar Stewart had hoped.
Chosen by the Bears with the No. 62 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Turner only appeared in five games, before suffering a torn ACL, which ended his season in a Week 8 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Limited to just six total tackles as a rookie, Turner’s return could jolt a Bears defensive line that figures to be a point of emphasis for general manager Ryan Poles and the front office during free agency and the NFL Draft in the weeks and months ahead.
“There’s a lot going on there just in terms of we had some injuries going on that you have to overcome,” Poles said. “I think that’s an area where we can continue to press and get better. I look forward to Shemar (Turner) getting back and Dayo (Odeyingbo) getting back.”
Turner, 6-foot-4 and 285 pounds, was a game-wrekcer at Texas A&M, where he posted 22.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks, but never quite had the opportunity to flash that upside during an injury-plagued rookie season.
Poles sure sounds like the Bears view Turner, at minimum, as a piece of the puzzle and perhaps even a key cog in a revamped front.
Even if Chicago spends big to upgrade along the line of scrimmage, Poles sure sounds like the Bears are counting on Turner making an impact when he’s able to return and get back onto the field.
