The Chicago White Sox are reportedly calling up Jarred Kelenic
Ian Eskridge of Future Sox is reporting that the White Sox have called up outfielder Jarred Kelenic. As of this writing, the White Sox have not confirmed this move or announced a corresponding move to have him called up. After having Everson Pereira leave Tuesday’s game with right shoulder soreness, this could be the move, but again, nothing is official at this point. Chicago manager Will Venable did say that Pereira is being evaluated, but nothing has been determined in terms of a roster move.
Kelenic has been swinging the bat well for the Charlotte Knights in Triple-A this season. He has an .810 OPS with six home runs, 18 RBI, 16 runs scored, and seven stolen bases in 26 games. The former first-round pick has struggled when he is called up to the big leagues, but this can be the chance to get more playing time with less pressure. Kelenic signed a minor league contract as a non-roster invitee this offseason with the White Sox.
If and when this move is official, expect him to get a lot of play in the outfield. He provides another left-handed batter in the lineup who has been swinging the bat well recently. It will be intriguing to see how long he is able to stay in the majors and how he performs.
