Fever star Sophie Cunningham addresses decision against Caitlin Clark
The Indiana Fever made sure that Sophie Cunningham wasn’t going to take her talents elsewhere. The 6-foot-1 guard became an unrestricted free agent, which cast doubt on her future with the Fever. Cunningham was free to sign with any other WNBA team, and the 29-year-old herself had previously admitted that she intended to test the market.
In the end, however, Cunningham and the Fever agreed on a one-year deal to keep her in Indiana. Cunningham is expected to be a key piece for the Fever’s goals in 2026 as Caitlin Clark returns to the mix.
Clark had an injury-plagued 2025 campaign, but she is now fully healthy heading into her third WNBA season. Cunnigham will play a pivotal role for the team alongside Clark.

Indiana Fever: Sophie Cunningham leaves out Caitlin Clark on all-time list
Cunningham is now entering her eighth season in the WNBA. Through the years, she’s had the opportunity to play with and against some of the best in the business.
Cunningham was recently asked to name her all-time list of best shooters in basketball. She was free to pick any name from both the men’s and women’s games, as well as active and retired players. The Fever star had room for just four names on her Mt. Rushmore of shooters, though.
Cunningham submitted a very formidable list. Naturally, it started with Steph Curry, the greatest shooter of all time. Her next selection was “so far left,” as Cunningham added five-time WNBA All-Star Kayla McBride on her list.
Cunningham rounded off her top four with Hall of Famer Ray Allen and three-time WNBA champion Diana Taurasi. Cunningham notably had no room for Clark on her list.
The former Missouri Tigers was then asked why she decided to snub Clark on her list. Cunningham explained her stance confidently.
”She’s too young right now,” Cunningham said of Clark. “But I think once her career is over, I mean, she’s going to be up there. But for now, I think those are my four.”
Clark might be an elite shooter, but not even her own teammate is ready to name her as an all-time great. As Cunningham said, however, Clark should be up there once it is all said and done for her.
