Former Chicago White Sox gets second chance with the Blue Jays

It has been two seasons since outfielder/designated hitter Eloy Jimenez has been with the Chicago White Sox, and the same amount of time since he’s been in the major leagues. Grinding his way over the past two seasons to get back into the big leagues, Jimenez is finally getting a chance with another team after performing well in the minor leagues.

Former Chicago White Sox Eloy Jimenez gets a second chance

According to the Toronto Blue Jays on X, they selected the contract of Jimenez from Triple-A Buffalo, while placing outfielder George Springer (left great toe fracture) on the 10-day injured list. In 11 games at Triple-A, the 29-year-old Jimenez hit .257 with a .743 OPS, a home run, and five RBI.

Ranked as the White Sox’s No. 1 prospect in 2019, Jimenez performed well to start his career, but injuries limited him to 194 games (out of a potential 486 games) between 2021 and 2023. In six seasons with the White Sox, Jimenez batted .270 with a .790 OPS and hit 94 home runs.

Jimenez will need to make the most of his time with the Blue Jays while Springer is on the injured list, as his time may be short. According to Blue Jays beat writer with MLB.com, Keegan Matheson, Springer’s injury “could be close to the minimum of 10 days.”

Sounds like this could be close to the minimum of 10 days for George Springer.

If it were later in the year, he may have tried to play through it after a few days off, but the #BlueJays don’t want to push it and have Springer playing compromised.
