One Fever teammate played key role in Kelsey Mitchell’s major career decision
It was Kelsey Mitchell who put the Indiana Fever on her shoulders last season. The team was without Caitlin Clark for the majority of the campaign due to multiple injuries, leaving Indiana’s backcourt significantly shorthanded. This required Mitchell to step up in a major way. The 5-foot-8 guard gladly obliged.
Mitchell posted a career-high 20.2 points on 45.6% shooting, along with 1.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 3.14 minutes per contest. She also knocked down 2.5 triples per game on a 39.4% clip. Thanks to her strong play, the Fever finished with a 24-20 record — their best since 2015 — and made it to the WNBA playoffs semifinals.
Mitchell was named an All-Star for a third consecutive season, was selected into the All-WNBA First Team and finished fifth in the MVP race.

Kelsey Mitchell reveals Lexie Hull’s role in new Indiana Fever contract
Mitchell cemented herself as a central figure in the Fever’s core. As such, the team made sure that she wasn’t going anywhere in WNBA free agency. Mitchell signed a new one-year, $1.4 million supermax contract with the Fever. She was Indiana’s top priority in free agency, and the front office wasted no time getting a deal done.
Mitchell recently opened up about her decision to re-sign with the Fever. She revealed that one teammate played a key role in her major career move.
“I asked Lexie [Hull] — we sat at the table a couple times together,” Mitchell shared. “We knew we had to make it make sense. We knew that we wanted to be together. So that was the easy part — sit down and break bread with the people that you enjoy playing the game with.
“We talked about making sacrifices for each other. We talked about being what we needed to be for each other.”
Hull was also a free agent for the Fever, and she, too, decided to stay. The 6-foot-1 guard put pen to paper on a two-year, $1.57 million deal to extend her tenure in Indiana.
Mitchell said that she also spoke with Clark and her other Fever teammates about her free agency. However, it is clear that Hull was a major factor in Mitchell’s decision to stay.
