1 move the Bears could make that would drive the Packers nuts

Ben Johnson, Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears were finally able to break the Green Bay Packers curse last season, beating them out for the NFC North division title and then topping them in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

The problem, however, is that the Bears have not exactly improved a ton this offseason. In fact, they have actually subtracted some key pieces, such as wide receiver D.J. Moore and cornerback Nahshon Wright. Not only that, but Chicago has still failed to address one of its biggest holes: the pass rush.

The Bears managed just 35 sacks in 2025, which ranked toward the bottom of the NFL. They haven’t signed any edge rushers in free agency, and they also didn’t nab one in the NFL Draft.

Chicago seems pretty confident that the duo of Montez Sweat and Austin Booker will be enough next season, but it still needs some depth along the edge. Fortunately for the Bears, there are still some good veteran edge rushers available, and there is one name they could add that would annoy the Packers: Jadeveon Clowney.

Chicago Bears should sign Jadeveon Clowney to stick it to the Green Bay Packers

Like the Bears, the Packers are also in need of edge help. Micah Parsons is recovering from a torn ACL, and Green Bay traded away Rashan Gary while watching Kingsley Enagbare walk via free agency. In fact, a legitimate argument can be made that so long as Parsons is on the shelf, the Packers’ pass rush is in even more trouble than Chicago’s.

Clowney would fit both NFC North squads. He is surely looking to sign with a contender, and both teams would provide him with the opportunity to make the playoffs and potentially contend for a Super Bowl. That’s why the Bears should beat Green Bay to the punch.

The 33-year-old spent the 2025 campaign with the Dallas Cowboys, registering 41 tackles and 8.5 sacks in 13 games. Yes, injuries have been an issue for Clowney throughout his career, but he has still managed to play in 44 games the past three seasons, and when he is on the field, he is productive.

Last September, Clowney agreed to a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Cowboys, so clearly, he wouldn’t be too expensive for Chicago a year later. That’s great news for a Bears squad with a tenuous salary cap situation.

If Chicago snatches Clowney, it would not only significantly bolster its pass rush, but it would drive the Packers nuts.
