Chicago Blackhawks add star winger in The Athletic’s most recent NHL mock draft
The Chicago Blackhawks are in a position to significantly improve the roster with the fourth pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. They have cap space and a premier pick to fill massive holes on the roster. Ivar Stenberg is a Chicago Blackhawk in The Athletic’s latest mock draft
The Athletic’s Corey Pronman wrote a one-round 2026 NHL mock draft. Chicago has the fourth pick and selects left winger Ivar Stenberg from the Swedish Hockey League. Below is the section regarding the pick and why this makes sense:
“I think the dream for Chicago is to add a dynamic scorer to eventually pair with Connor Bedard. Stenberg’s electric puck skills fits the bill, though there are still mixed opinions on how high he ultimately goes. Some think he could be gone by No. 4, but history lacks precedent of two 5-foot-11 wingers going at the very top of the draft.”
The first three picks saw Gavin McKenna, Chase Reid, and Caleb Malhotra taken, so they had some choices to make. Chicago has holes they need to fill and a handful of players who could be selected if this is how the board falls.
Stenberg recorded 33 total points (11 goals, 22 assists) across 43 games for Frolunda HC in the 2025-26 season. He also participated in the 2026 World Junior U-20 Championships, and across seven games, Stenberg posted 10 points (four goals, six assists). This would be a major addition to the team, as he could compete with Frank Nazar for the starting spot. Another potential fit would be to move either him or Nazar to the right wing to get both on the ice.
The Blackhawks certainly could use another offensive weapon or two, as they finished 30th with 210 total goals (2.56 goals per game). Chicago has some weaknesses throughout the roster, but selecting Stenberg would significantly improve the franchise.
