Chicago Cubs fans clap back at Brewers manager Pat Murphy over forced rage bait
The Chicago Cubs, at 29-19, currently are in first place in the National League Central Division. However, the Milwaukee Brewers, who have won the division in each of the past three years, drew to within half of game of the NL Central lead by beating the Cubs 9-3 on Monday night.
Indeed, it appears that, once again, the Brewers and Cubs are going to be battling out until late September to see which one of them will take the division crown. This was the case last year and the season prior.
While the Cubs are well aware of how good Milwaukee is, it appears that their manager continues to believe the Cubs are underestimating them.

Prior to the start of the season, many national analysts predicted that the Cubs would win the division. However, they also acknowledged that the Brewers have surprised them in the past and very well could do so again.
After Milwaukee defeated Chicago 9-3 on Monday, Brewers manager Pat Murphy said, “They [the Cubs] don’t even know most of our guys names so they’re never going to be intimated by us, but we’re not looking for that.”
This is, of course, nonsensical because Milwaukee and Chicago have been fiercely battling atop the NL Central for the last several seasons. And Cubs fans were having none of it:

Brewers have legitimate stars and are arguably a better roster than the Cubs especially with all the Cubs injuries. The underdog gimmick for the brewers was never real. They’ve basically dominated this division the past 5-7 years

While it is true that the Brewers flew under the radar for years, the same is not factual in 2026. Sure, the Cubs got a lot of pre-season predictions in their favor, but it was with the stipulation that Milwaukee was very strong as well.
