Indiana Fever fans saddened by unwanted news before WNBA season

Indiana Fever guard Megan McConnell (16)

The Indiana Fever are now just days away from their season-opener against the Dallas Wings. The Fever will host Paige Bueckers and Co. on Saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse as they look to make amends for their preseason loss against Dallas on April 30.

As the start of the new WNBA season quickly approaches, the Fever had to make some tough roster decisions. The league requires teams to cut down their roster to a maximum of 12 players. Starting this year, following the agreement on a new CBA, teams may add two developmental spots, increasing the roster size to 14 players.

However, the active roster must remain at 12 players during games.

Indiana Fever fans react to roster cuts

The Fever announced on Wednesday that they have waived the contracts of three players. Rookie Jessica Timmons has been released. The same is the case for guards Kayana Traylor and Megan McConnell, who both signed a training camp contract with the Fever in free agency.

While this is a necessary step in the process of finalizing the team’s roster, fans could not help but feel sad by the news.

“This is the hard part 🥹 Thank you ladies 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼” a comment on Instagram read.

“All three??? What do we have planned? 😭” said another.

“How ya gonna release tj’s sister 😭” a user wrote, referencing McConnell, who is the sister of Indiana Pacers guard T.J. McConnell.

“nooo not megan 😢😢” a reaction read.

“😢😢😢 hate this sometimes but wish them the best,” another said.

“Timmons 💔” a fan wrote.

It is worth noting that these players could still find their way back to the Fever. According to reporter Chloe Peterson of the Indanapolis Star, Indiana will “likely sign” one of them to a developmental spot once they clear the waivers.
